GRADES 7 AND 8

LUNCH PROGRAM POLICY

October, 2015

In recognition that a child’s nutrition is very important to a successful learning experience, the Food Service Department will make accommodations for students who have no money in their account or have forgotten their money.  As with any institution, the school district has an obligation to be fiscally accountable and cost effective.  In an effort to meet these two priorities, the following procedure will be followed:

CHARGING PROCEDURE:

  • All parents/guardians will receive THREE low balance alerts by email, mail, or phone call.
  • Students who do not have a balance or forget money for that day will be allowed to charge ONE meal and will receive a regular meal for lunch on that day.
  • If a student needs to charge a lunch AFTER that ONE charge, the student will receive an alternate lunch for THREE DAYS and be charged the standard lunch rate.  It will be reported as a meal to the state and federal school lunch authorities and thus will be eligible for reimbursement.
  • If full payment is NOT received by the end of the fourth day, the student will not be able to receive school meals.  The Food Service Department will inform the parent/guardian that they are responsible to provide the student with food while at school.
  • Those students with an outstanding balance will not be allowed to charge desserts, ice cream, second entrees, or any ala carte items.

If full payment is not received within 30 days, the Superintendent of his/her designee may take one or more of the following actions:

  1. Delay the issuance of report cards, transfer cards, and class assignments until obligations are met.
  2. Prohibit participation of the student in the lunch program
  3. Prohibit participation of student or other students in that student’s household from participating in any future fee-based program until or unless outstanding balances are resolved.
  4. Prohibit student participation in school/end-of-year activities
  5. Referral to small claims court, a collection agency, or the DA’s Office.
